Dawn always wakes me. So much of the time it is gray. Today it was yellow. It filled the room, as we lay wrapped in sheets and each other. She looked so beautiful there in my bed, so many shades of cinnamon. I loved looking at her.
I had always felt secure in my aloneness. It was not that I never wanted the encumbrances of a woman. I had had that. Women had moved into my world; brought their plants, suitcases, and pillows; stayed; and then moved on, leaving photos, makeup, assorted undergarments, and memories in drawers where I least expected to find them.
